WESTFIELD — An assailant entered The Gaslight Barbers at 37 Elm St. at 11:20 a.m. Friday, stabbed another person multiple times, and fled the area, Westfield police said in a statement.

It was a targeted attack, not a random act of violence, police said.

The suspect, identified as Jose Alvarado, of Huntington, was subsequently found in Huntington and taken into custody with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police. He has been charged with attempted murder, according to the statement.

Police warned the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges might be forthcoming.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
