BOISE, Idaho — Less than two weeks after 8-year-old Mora Gerety was struck and killed on Harrison Boulevard, community members are pushing for change.
The need for change extends past the North End, Boise City Councilmember Jimmy Hallyburton said. Road safety is an issue across the city and the state, he said.
“This is a larger issue than what we're seeing just on Harrison,” Hallyburton said. “It’s across the community, it’s across the state and frankly it’s across the country.”
The Idaho Walk Bike Alliance is a nonprofit organization that pushes for safer roads by educating people about best practices when traveling and advocating for safety infrastructure.
John Bengston, President of the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance, hopes the Nov. 11 tragedy helps spark the change needed statewide.
