MOORHEAD — Minnesota State Moorhead junior Dominic Gooden scored 43 points to spark the Dragons to a 100-85 victory against No. 17-ranked Black Hills State on Friday in nonconference NCAA Division II men's basketball at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.

The Dragons (1-2) earned their first victory for first-year head coach Jason Kemp.

The 6-foot-1 Gooden went 12 of 16 from the field, including 6-for-8 shooting from 3-point range. His 43 points are the fifth most in program history. The Dragons shot 60% (33 of 55) from the floor.

Rodrick Payne added 13 points and five rebounds for MSUM, which play South Dakota Mines at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Nemzek in the second and final day of the East-West Shootout.
