LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood plans to recommend the district move up school start times for the 2026-27 school year.
The times would be adjusted to be 20 minutes earlier than what they are currently. That would push the earliest start time to 7:10 a.m., and the latest start time to 9:20 a.m. Dismissal times would also move up by 20 minutes.
District officials say the proposal was driven by conversations Yearwood has had with principals and staff, who want the times adjusted.
The proposal is expected to be on the agenda for the JCPS Board meeting on Dec. 9.
