St. Augustine running back Khlil Lewis knew he had to step up after No. 14 Acadiana tied the game early in the final frame of the third-seeded Purple Knights’ Division I select regional round game on Friday at Tad Gormley Stadium.
The sophomore delivered with two fourth-quarter touchdown runs to help lift his team to a 55-42 win against the Rams.
Lewis’ first touchdown run came from 4 yards out to give St. Augustine (10-1) a 49-42 lead with 7:54 left in the contest. His final score came on a 20-yard run with 2:40 remaining in the game.
Lewis finished with 114 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts.
“I was praying all week and manifesting what this moment would be,” Lewis said. “This wouldn’t just be for my team. It would be for the whole school and the whole Purple Knight community.”
