LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Senior quarterback Jake LaVerde rushed for three touchdowns as Kirtland defeated Garaway, 21-7, in the Division VI, Region 21 final at Leopard Stadium on Friday night.
Kirtland improves to 13-0 and advances to the state semifinals to face the Colonel Crawford (13-1) next Friday. Garaway finishes its season at 10-3.
The Hornets dominated on the ground throughout the contest, with LaVerde carrying 18 times for 131 yards while completing 4 of 5 passes for 43 yards. He scored on runs of nine, 10, and one yard to power the undefeated Hornets.
Kirtland built a 14-0 halftime lead before Garaway cut the deficit to seven on a 21-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Grady Miller to Micah Yoder in the third quarter. The Pirates had an opportunity to tie the game in the
