Reports from New Delhi suggest that Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender; who recently crossed over from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the Congress; is likely to resign from the assembly within the next couple of days to pre-empt a possible disqualification.

According to senior Congress leaders and members of Nagender’s inner circle, he has concluded that stepping down is the safest way to safeguard his political future.

He is preparing to resign and contest the resulting byelection, with a formal announcement expected within the next three days.

His trip to Delhi on Friday triggered a new wave of speculation within the party and among legislators.

Speculation has also intensified around Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari, who is facing notices over his defection.
