BATAVIA — The City Council will consider supporting federal legislation it says will keep energy costs affordable for residents and preserve reliable access to natural gas.
At Monday’s 7 p.m. Council meeting, members will vote on whether to support the Energy Choice Act, legislation New York Congressman Nick Langworthy introduced in the House of Representatives. The City Council would also oppose Albany-mandated bans on natural gas and other fossil fuel hookups in residential and commercial buildings. The state budget provisions banning these fuels are set to go into effect next year for smaller buildings and in 2029 for larger buildings.
