Employees need not worry about claim disruptions when their employer switches group health insurers at renewal, as the old insurer remains responsible for settling all claims linked to a hospitalisation that began under its policy, according to Sajja Praveen Chowdary, Director, Policybazaar for Business.

Chowdary explained that in group health insurance, the date of hospitalisation—not the policy period—determines which insurer pays.

For instance, if an employee is hospitalised in mid-February and the employer changes insurers on April 1, the post-hospitalisation claim due in April must still be settled by the old insurer.
