A Jersey City man was arrested after police say he used a Bergen County resident’s Costco credit card to make nearly $6,900 in fraudulent purchases.
Baba A. Toure, 55, was taken into custody after a months-long investigation that began when a Lyndhurst resident reported identity theft and credit card fraud, Lyndhurst Police Chief Richard Jarvis said. The victim told Officer Michael D’Alessandro that they received their Costco credit card on July 31, and later learned of approximately $6,900 in fraudulent charges when returning items at the Costco in Clifton, according to police.
Detective Joseph White led an extensive investigation that identified Toure as a suspect in the unauthorized transactions. White developed several leads and worked with the Wayne and Jersey City Police Departments before securing an arrest warrant.
Toure was apprehended by the Rivervale Police Department on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and later taken to the Lyndhurst Police Department on the warrant, police said. He was then lodged in the Bergen County Jail.
Toure was charged with third-degree credit card fraud and third-degree theft of identity.
