An 83-year-old great grandmother wants to find living relatives of a man who saved her from a Coventry house fire more than 75 years ago.
A deadly blaze took hold of a house in Hood Street, Hillfields, in the summer of 1949, killing two children inside. Two others managed to get away.
One, a boy aged nine named Michael Ridley awoke to see smoke in the room he'd been fast asleep in. He woke his six-year-old sister Marjorie, telling her they needed to escape. They also woke little Annie and James Prendergast, who lived at the house with their parents, and tried to get them all out. The four youngsters were in the house by themselves.
