The grindcore band is hanging up its distortion pedals as its lead singer faces an ongoing battle with dementia.
The soft-spoken septuagenarian, except when she’s on stage, has become a beloved figure in the extreme heavy metal music world. She counts legends Henry Rollins and Ozzy Osbourne among her fans.
To keep up the band “mystique,” she is known publicly only as Grindmother.
