Vermont soccer 's hopes of a championship repeat ended in crushing fashion during the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 23.

Laurie Goddard's lefty blast via a counterattack gave Hofstra a 3-2 victory over No. 1-seed and previously unbeaten Vermont, stunning the Virtue Field crowd of 2,630 and halting the Catamounts' bid for a second consecutive national title.

Vermont closes its season at 14-1-5. Its 29-game unbeaten streak, the nation's ninth longest of all-time, also came to an end despite more late magic to force the extra period. Defender Rui Aoki provided an 84th-minute equalizer off a corner-kick header that briefly gave Vermont new life.
