One man is in custody after a shooting early Sunday morning near the 1400 block of Rossville Avenue.

Officers working another job heard the commotion around 2:57am and moved towards the gunfire, according to a statement from the Chattanooga Police Department.

They say they saw a man shooting at a car, so they detained him, and identified two other people potentially involved while securing the scene. During the shooting, police say an officer "discharged his weapon."

We've asked the department if it was accidental.

Investigators later learned that the man in the car had shot first, then sped off from the scene. No injuries were reported.

That car, driven by 25-year-old Joshua Maddox, fled and later crashed in the 1400 block of Magnolia Street.
