Komets coach Jesse Kallechy knew what his team was up against when they faced Wichita Thunder rookie goaltender Matt Davis on Sunday.

“He’s the best goalie in the league,” Kallechy said. “We talked about it before the game. We need to make his life difficult, and though at times we did.”

In the end, 55 shots on net weren’t hard enough. Davis finished with 54 saves, the most by an ECHL goaltender this season, in a 2-1 win over the Komets in front of 6,786 fans at Memorial Coliseum.

While the Komets (10-4-0) managed a new season-high in shots, better opportunities might have been left on the table in what was the third game in three days for both teams.
