BROOKINGS, S.D. — The North Dakota State volleyball team has rallied around the same mantra all season.

“We talk every single day about a never die mentality,” said Bison outside hitter Baily Randall in a postgame interview. “I think we went out there and proved that extremely well.”

At match point in the fifth set trailing 14-10, NDSU’s season appeared to be drawing to a close, then that phrase kicked in.

The fourth-seeded Bison rattled off six straight points to defeat No. 5 Denver 16-14 in the fifth and the match 3-2 in the Summit League volleyball championship quarterfinals on Sunday at First Bank & Trust Arena.

“We were able to fight back in a really awesome, unexpected way,” said NDSU head coach Jennifer Lopez in a postgame interview.

The Bison clawed back to tie the set at 14-1
