Kings Priory School in Tynemouth, North Tyneside, has been closed following reports of a "potential critical threat". The school communicated this decision to parents via its ParentMail channel, stating that the closure is a precautionary measure. Principal Philip Sanderson informed parents in an email on Sunday evening that the school would not open on Monday, November 24, 2025. He expressed regret over the situation, saying, "It is with deep regret, I write to you now to say that due to a potential critical threat, Kings Priory School will need to be closed on Monday. Of course, I will share when appropriate the details of the situation. I wholly understand the inconvenience this will cause and I will be in touch as soon as possible." The closure follows a report received by Northumbria Police regarding malicious communications directed at the school. Police confirmed that officers attended the site on Sunday and later established that there was "no credible threat" to the school, its staff, or pupils. A spokesperson for Northumbria Police stated, "Just after 4.30pm yesterday, we received a report of malicious communications directed towards a secondary school in North Tyneside. Officers attended immediately to carry out enquiries and a number of hours later established there to be no credible threat to the school, its pupils or staff." Councillor Lewis Bartoli, deputy leader of the North Tyneside Conservative Group and councillor for Tynemouth, urged the community to refrain from speculation. He remarked, "I'd ask people not to speculate or put any rumours out. Whilst the language is concerning, it might not be something to worry about. Let's wait until we know all the facts." Kings Priory School and Northumbria Police have been approached for further information regarding the incident. Parents have been advised to stay alert for updates as the situation develops.
