The stage is set for Dexter to compete for its first-ever state championship, but Dreadnaughts will have to go through the defending champion to win it all.
No. 3 Dexter (12-1) will clash with No. 4 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (10-2) in the Division 2 state title game Friday at 7 p.m. at Ford Field.
This will be the first-ever matchup between the two teams who have significantly different histories in the finals.
St. Mary’s looking for back-to-back title for the first time since winning three straight from 2014-2016.
The Eaglets knocked off No. 1 Portage Central 42-7 in their semifinal matchup last week, and Dexter defeated Birmingham Groves 41-6.
OLSM has played in 13 championship games and has won six of them, while this will be Dexter’s first crack at the title.
