OKEMOS, Mich. (WILX) - The week of Thanksgiving is one of the busiest of the year for grocery and food stores, and Mert’s Specialty Meats is no exception.

The Okemos meat market has been preparing for the holiday rush since July, working to secure enough turkeys to meet demand.

This year, the store purchased several hundred birds in a wide range of sizes and even dedicated an entire walk-in refrigerator exclusively to turkey storage.

Co-owner Brandon Decker said planning ahead is just as important for customers as it is for businesses.

“Make sure you give yourself enough time to pick up your turkey if you want to brine that turkey. But, you know, or, you know, if you don’t have enough space in your fridge to keep it for a couple of days, you know, make sure you’re picking it up in time
