AUSTIN, Texas — Several local lawmakers are backing Governor Greg Abbott’s newly announced plan to overhaul Texas’ property tax system. The proposal was unveiled as part of Abbott’s announcement that he will seek a fourth term as governor.

State Representatives Marc LaHood and Mark Dorazio of San Antonio, along with Carrie Isaac of New Braunfels, are among 25 Texas lawmakers who signed a letter supporting the governor’s plan.

Abbott’s property tax reform proposal includes five major components he intends to push in the next legislative session. Among them:

Requiring two-thirds voter approval for any property tax increases

Allowing citizen-led tax rate rollbacks

Eliminating school property taxes entirely
