Richard Madeley has been open about his health issues over the years

Television presenter Richard Madeley caused worry amongst viewers last week when he withdrew from Good Morning Britain due to sickness. The 69-year-old broadcaster has since returned to the programme, revealing he had contracted Covid - an illness which has also previously sparked further health complications.

Perforated eardrum

In 2024, Richard disclosed that a Covid infection he caught in France resulted in hearing loss in one ear, sparking difficulties with presenting. Discussing the "big mistake" which worsened his condition, he explained: "After I was no longer infectious, I took the short-haul flight home. Big mistake.

"A build-up of fluid behind my right eardrum burst it as the cabin air pressure fluctuated.
