A Wisconsin woman, Morgan Geyser, has been located in Illinois after cutting off her electronic monitoring device and leaving a group home. Geyser, now 23, was involved in a notorious stabbing incident in 2014, where she and a friend attacked a classmate to appease the fictional character Slender Man.

The Madison Police Department issued an alert for Geyser on Sunday after she was reported missing. Authorities stated she was last seen around 8 p.m. Saturday with an adult man. Geyser was found early Monday at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, approximately 25 miles south of Chicago and 170 miles from Madison.

Geyser was discovered sleeping on a sidewalk with a 42-year-old man, who has since been charged with criminal trespassing and obstructing identification. He has been released from custody.

Geyser had been placed in the group home earlier this year after being granted conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She was sentenced to 40 years in 2018 after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide for the 2014 stabbing of her classmate, Payton Leutner.

Leutner survived the attack, which occurred after Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, lured her to a wooded area following a sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged her. The girls later told investigators they believed they needed to commit the act to become Slender Man's servants, fearing he would harm their families if they did not.

Geyser's attorney, Tony Cotton, expressed concern over her situation and urged her to turn herself in. He stated he was unaware of the circumstances surrounding her departure from the group home.

The Madison Police Department was not informed of Geyser's absence until nearly 12 hours after she left. The state Department of Corrections received an alert about a malfunction with her ankle monitor Saturday night and contacted the group home two hours later. It was only the next morning that police were notified of her missing status.

Geyser has petitioned for release from the psychiatric facility multiple times since June 2022. Her third request was denied in April 2024 due to concerns about her potential threat to the public. However, her fourth petition, filed in October 2024, was successful, leading to her placement in the group home.

At this time, it remains unclear where Geyser will be held following her recent arrest.
