A Coniston man learned the hard way that drinking and driving laws apply to more than streets and roads.
“It’s quite common in this court and other places where we hear about tragic incidents on trails and off roads,” Ontario Court Justice Graham Jenner told Nathan Peters, 37, just before sentencing him in Sudbury.
Peters, who had pleaded guilty to blowing 80, received a 90-day conditional sentence, an 18-month probation order, and an 18-month licence suspension.
The conditional sentence, which will consist of 45 days of house arrest followed by 45 days with a curfew, includes such conditions as taking treatment as directed, in particular, for alcohol abuse, and no alcohol or illegal drug consumption.
The probation order that will follow includes several of those conditions.
