My old friend Lloyd Seivright, who devoted his life to helping others, passed away at age 89 earlier this month.

Lloyd, along with his late wife, Madaine, were “ordinary” people who, along with a small group of volunteers, did extraordinary things.

He was a shipper during his working life, Madaine his constant right hand during their 49-year marriage, before she passed away two years ago at age 80.

They were both born in Jamaica and emigrated to Canada, where they married in 1974.

In 1978, they established their charitable foundation , the Independent United Order of Solomon, Pride of Toronto, Chapter 12 in honour of their homeland of Jamaica and their adopted home of Canada.
