LAPEER, MI - Ten months after the Lapeer District Library’s director resigned, board members say a national search has reached nearly 100 qualified prospects.
However, none of the prospects are willing to take the job as controversy surrounding the library continues to deter applicants.
Search committee member John DeAngelis told the board on Nov. 20 that Summit, the California-based search firm hired this summer, has contacted 96 people who meet the qualifications for the director role.
“They like the financial package,” DeAngelis said. “But they don’t like all the controversy when they look us up and they see what’s in the media. That’s when they back out.”
