A woman was hospitalized with severe injuries after she was attacked by an out-of-control dog in a luxury condominium association last week in Bergen County, officials said.
The victim was walking her small dog in the Bears Nest Condominium Complex on Spring Valley Road in Park Ridge when another dog, a leashed Rottweiler, became "uncontrolled" and attacked just after 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, Park Ridge Police Lt. James Babcock said.
Montvale police officers arrived as Park Ridge police were handling another call, Babcock said. Montvale officers applied a tourniquet to control severe bleeding and provided additional wound care until the arrival of Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and ALS personnel, according to Babcock.
According to police, the victim suffered significant bite injuries to her left foot, right buttocks, and head. Her dog was not injured.
The victim was in stable condition after being treated at Hackensack University Medical Center, police said.
The owner of the attacking dog provided vaccination records. The dog was ordered to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine, per state protocol. A second individual also sustained a minor bite injury while attempting to intervene but declined medical treatment, police said.
Following the incident, notifications were made to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen County Animal Control, and the Bergen County Health Department, all of whom will be involved in determining any required follow-up actions.
No further information was provided.
