Amazon today announced it plans to invest $15 billion in northern Indiana data center campuses, creating 1,100 new jobs.

The data campuses at undisclosed locations will support artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies, the global company said in a news release. The project will add 2.4 gigawatts of data center capacity to northern Indiana.

Today's announcement follows an $11 billion investment in St. Joseph County last year. Gov. Mike Braun said the "continued investment in Indiana is a major win for our region," the news release said.

"This project will create good-paying jobs for Hoosiers, expand our tax base, and strengthen the economic foundation for communities across the state. It also positions Indiana at the forefront of America’s next generation of innovation,"
