Rotary Club of Fort Wayne launched an environmental initiative Monday that's taking root at Fort Wayne Community Schools.
Club members joined Bunche Montessori Early Childhood Center students and staff outside the southeast Fort Wayne school to plant the first of 60 native hardwood trees planned for seven FWCS campuses, a news release said.
Randy Roberts of Rotary described the project as more than an environmental act.
"It's an investment in the future health, beauty and resilience of our community," he said in a statement. "We look forward to these trees growing alongside the students who will learn and thrive under their branches."
Along with Bunche, the plantings will benefit Kekionga Middle School and five elementary buildings – Croninger, Lincoln, Northcrest, St. Joseph Central a
