Thanksgiving in Detroit means the return of America’s Thanksgiving Parade Presented by Gardner White, making its way down Woodward Avenue starting at 8:45 a.m. Thursday. Now in its 99 th year, the three-mile event will feature a series of elaborate floats, giant balloons, marching bands, clowns and more, with this year’s theme “Thanksgiving is Better in Detroit!”

“It is the heart and soul of the events and bringing people together in the city, unlike any other,” said Tony Michaels, president & CEO of The Parade Company.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who is leaving office this year after 12 years of service, and longtime WDIV-Local 4 anchor Devin Scillian are this year’s grand marshals. The parade will open with a performance from Disney’s “The Lion King,” returning to the Detroit Opera Ho
