HATFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - State officials took part in the ‘Green Friday’ Christmas Tree Cutting Ceremony Monday morning, celebrating the industry that grows all of our trees for the holiday season.
Governor Maura Healey launched the event to encourage everyone in the state to visit their local farms and nurseries for their Christmas trees, and other festive plants, this holiday season.
It began at Chestnut Mountain Christmas Tree Farm in Hatfield Monday morning, where Western Mass News spoke to Co-owner Bob Schrader about the event.
“An event like this brings attention to the fact that you can get a tree grown in Massachusetts that’s nice and fresh, rather than a tree that’s being shipped in from the north...or south of us,” Schrader says.
