A cruise ship passenger is presumed dead after he jumped overboard during a voyage from Australia to New Zealand.
The 73-year-old Melbourne man, from the north suburb of Moonee Ponds, jumped overboard during the Disney Wonder’s voyage from Melbourne to Auckland, news.com.au reported.
“It is understood the man died after he jumped from a cruise liner into waters in the Tasman Sea on Saturday about 4:30 a.m.,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said in a statement.
The victim has not yet been identified.
Cops are not treating his death as suspicious. His body is yet to be recovered.
The ship turned around in the Tasman Sea in a bid to find the passenger but crews were unable to locate the man after five hours.
