N.C. State basketball ’s “ red reckoning ” was overcome by a blue wave in the Wolfpack’s debut at the Maui Invitational .
Ranked No. 22 in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll and No. 23 in the AP Top 25, N.C. State was upset in a 85-74 loss to Seton Hall in the opening game at the Lahaina Civic Center.
The Wolfpack (4-1) trailed by double digits early in the first half and watched the Pirates (6-0) push their lead to 18 points in the second half of a sloppy, stunning performance for coach Will Wade’s bunch, which trailed for nearly 39 minutes.
According to ESPN research, Seton Hall is the first unranked team to beat a ranked team this season. Ranked teams were 96-0 against unranked opponents to start the year, which was the longest streak of its kind in AP poll history, per ESPN.
