KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A Kearney woman sentenced to prison for the shooting death of her husband is appealing her case to a higher court.
On Oct. 20, 2024, Kearney police arrested Karen Geisler for the death of 62-year-old Jimmy Geisler.
She was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony. Last month she was sentenced to 20 to 40 years on the attempted murder charge and 11 to 15 years for the weapons charge.
On Friday, her attorney filed notice that he was taking her case to the Nebraska Court of Appeals. Now he and prosecutors will file arguments with the Court of Appeals. So far, no hearing date has been scheduled on the appeal.
Geisler’s appeal is likely to take several months.
