POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa ( IOWA CAPITAL DISPATCH ) - Grinnell College and other community organizations have earmarked tens of thousands of dollars to help those in the area impacted by paused food aid benefits.

The private university announced in a news release last week it has committed $10,000 to the Grinnell Food Coalition, an initiative within the Claude W. and Dolly Ahrens Foundation that works to address food needs. Insurance company Grinnell Mutual and the Campbell Fund, a trust operated by the city, also donated $10,000 each, according to the release.

Jennifer Cogley, director of programs for the foundation, said Monday the coalition has reached its $50,000 fundraising goal.
