ROCKFORD, Ill. — The city government has announced the last week it will collect yard waste from residents.

The City of Rockford said the final week of residential yard waste collection for 2025 will be Monday, Dec. 1 through Thursday, Dec. 5. After Dec. 5, residents have one more chance to get rid of yard waste during the annual Christmas tree collection in early January 2026.

The City said yard waste material has to be put in compostable paper bags or in refuse cans no bigger than 32 gallons, marked with a large "X".

Twigs, branches, and other large brush objects that can't fit into those containers must be put in bundles no longer than 4 feet, and no wider than 2 feet. Those bundles should be tied with string or twine, not wire or tape.
