Shoppers in Ohio who are concerned with the growing trend of businesses going cashless might soon see some relief thanks to lawmakers in Columbus if a new proposal becomes law .

The Currency Access to Spend Here Act, designated as House Bill 554, would require businesses and government offices to accept cash for purchases of $500 or less.

How would businesses be required to accept cash?

The measure, introduced by state Rep. David Thomas (R-Jefferson) , says every store or office would need to provide at least one point-of-sale option for cash payments, either by staffed register or an automated system. It also prohibits businesses from charging customers more for using cash as compared to digital or card transactions.
