ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Alexandria International Airport (AEX) is preparing for the busiest travel season of the year as the holiday season begins, with officials saying the recent federal government shutdown had minimal impact on operations.
The airport experienced about seven cancellations during the 43-day shutdown, the longest federal government shutdown on record.
Despite concerns about impacts in the aftermath of the shutdown, Scott Gammel, Director of Aviation with AEX, said operations are now fully back to normal and offered advice for holiday travelers.
“We always want to reiterate, when you come to the airport, come early,” Gammel said. “The earlier you get there, the less issues you’ll have upon arrival. If there are delays or if there’s even cancellations, if you get here,
