Days after losing everything in a house fire, a family of 14 from the Monte Alto area now have a few belongings again thanks to H-E-B and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
On Sunday, the Dominguez family was selected to be part of “Troopsgiving,” a DPS effort to help 10 area families in need.
Troopers shopped with the family as the parents and 12 children picked out groceries and snacks.
“When we get here, they told us my kids can get whatever they want, and they felt so happy,” Mario Dominguez said. “The first thing they went through were the candies, my wife got a little bit of food too.”
The Nov. 19 fire that destroyed the Dominguez home is still under investigation. Mario said it took him four years to build the home, and that the community has been supporting the family.
