WASHINGTON —

Officials said Monday that significant progress was made in urgent weekend talks to revise the U.S. peace proposal for Ukraine, a plan that initially sparked backlash for appearing to align too closely with Russia’s demands.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, "The vast majority of these points have been agreed upon. The Ukrainians have worked on language with us together, and you heard that from their delegation directly yesterday. So we feel as though we're in a very good place."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who directed the talks in Geneva, on Sunday called them “very worthwhile” and constituted the most productive day in “a very long time.”

“I feel very optimistic that we can get something done,” Rubio said.
