The Pace Center for Girls in Orange County, a nonprofit serving young girls for over three decades, is closing its doors in December due to challenges, including low enrollment and transportation issues, executive director Raquel McCormick tells WESH 2.
"We are all heartbroken about where we are ourselves today," McCormick said. "We will be sunsetting our program. We look at a closure to be effective as of Dec. 19."
McCormick added that the decision comes as Pace reevaluates services at all 20 of its centers across Florida. The Orange County center faced challenges such as transportation issues, enrollment dropping to 25 students — half the projected number — and staffing difficulties.
The center has been a school and support system for young women across Orange County.
