The Department of Homeland Security said Monday that the 17-year-old McMinnville High School student detained by immigration agents last week was arrested because he was obstructing federal officers.

Christian Jimenez, a U.S. citizen, was driving his father’s car Friday during his school’s lunch break when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers pulled him over and detained him. His detention sparked an uproar in the McMinnville community, including protests over the weekend and a high school walkout Monday .
