SEATTLE — Parents are demanding action after a shooting last Friday near a Columbia City preschool left children caught in the crossfire.

Riann Tice had just picked up her 2-year-old son when she heard five or six gunshots while strapping him into his car seat.

"I knew they were close because I had never heard something so loud," Tice said through her tears.

A group of people exchanged gunfire outside the preschool where more than 100 children were waiting to be picked up by their families. No one was hurt.

"It's not like it's too close to home anymore. This is home," Tice said.

Parents said crime in the Columbia City community has gotten steadily worse in recent years, with drug dealing and overdoses at Rainier Playfield across the street and now gunfights at 4:30 p.m. Seattle Police
