MONROE, Wis. -- Two people died on Monday following a plane crash in rural Monroe.

The crash was reported at 5:15 p.m. and happened in the W4600 block of State Highway 59. The area of the reported crash was a gravel quarry on the northside of Highway 59, next to the Monroe Municipal Airport.

A sheriff's deputy arrived on scene and found fire in the quarry. Construction equipment was also on fire, and there was a large debris field from the aircraft.

Several agencies including the Juda Fire Department and Green County EMS responded to the scene.

The identities of the two people killed in the crash were unknown as of Monday night.

NTSB and FAA will investigate the crash.
