EDINA, Minn. — Thousands of seniors in Minnesota are suddenly facing a tough choice regarding their health and wellness.
Shop for a new gym, shop for new insurance or stretch their fixed incomes even further?
Last week, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota sent a letter to seniors on their Medicare Advantage plan, announcing a sudden change to its SilverSneakers program , a popular benefit that covers the cost of gym memberships at hundreds of locations across the state and the rest of the nation.
Life Time and YMCA of the North (Twin Cities locations) will no longer be part of the SilverSneakers program for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Medicare members, starting on January 1, 2026. YMCAs located in Greater Minnesota communities will remain in SilverSneakers.
