NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The U.S. Coast Guard is searching Lake Pontchartrain on Monday night (Nov. 24) for a possible downed small plane, a New Orleans aviation official told Fox 8.

Neither the Coast Guard nor the New Orleans Fire Department would immediately discuss the offshore search underway about four miles north of New Orleans Lakefront Airport, nor provide information on the incident.

Bruce Martin, director of aviation for Lakefront Airport, said the airport had been in contact with a small plane until losing radio contact.

Martin said the Coast Guard soon initiated the offshore search operation.

A Coast Guard officer confirmed the search was active, but said he was not authorized to provide details.
