WEST HAVEN, CT. (WFSB) - West Haven police arrested seven people and seized more than 30 roosters after busting an illegal cockfighting event with well over 100 attendees Saturday evening.

Officers responded to a building in the area of Front Avenue at around 6:50 p.m. for a report of an illegal cockfighting event.

Police encountered more than 100 people inside the building gathered around a makeshift wooden cockfighting ring. Many individuals seated around the ring and bystanders began fleeing when officers entered.

Officers observed loose feathers, chicken spurs, blood spatter and evidence inside the makeshift ring. Police also encountered dozens of roosters, some running around and others in boxes.
