DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Davenport police are giving people tips to avoid online scams this holiday season.
Officials recommend:
Shop on secure websites that have “HTTPS” and a lock icon in the URL
Don’t click on links or download attachments from unknown senders
Install doorbell cameras to deter porch pirates
If a deal looks too good to be true, it often is
“If you do get that funny feeling as well, after a purchase, as well, check your bank accounts, make sure that there hasn’t been any unauthorized purchases, and if there are, make sure you report it to the police department as well,” Lt. Dennis Colclasure with the Davenport Police Department said.
People can report suspicious activity or scams to the FTC or their local law enforcement’s non-emergency number.
