FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — Ta’Kiya Young’s family, friends and supporters gathered Monday night at the Kroger where she was shot and killed two years and three months ago — a place they have repeatedly returned to on the 24th of every month to celebrate her life.

Monday’s vigil was the first since a jury last week acquitted Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb of all charges in Young’s death, including murder, felonious assault and involuntary manslaughter.

The event included tearful chants from the crowd: “Say her name! Ta’Kiya Young! Say her name! Ta’Kiya Young!”

Young’s grandmother, Nadine Young, led the group in prayer, saying, “Lord please, we ask you to bless each and everyone who came out here tonight to celebrate the life of Ta'Kiya Monet' Yvette Young.”
