HALLSVILLE, Texas — An East Texas family has been waiting for their son to return home after he was detained near the Mexico Border , where he has been held for nine months.
Caden Hawkins' family said that he was on a work trip, when GPS took him off-course, landing him near the U.S.-Mexico border in Columbus, New Mexico. Authorities detained Caden for carrying a pistol and bullets he obtained and possessed legally in Texas.
In a phone call to his family, he said he expected to return to their home in Hallsville soon. That was nine months ago.
"And so he told my parents not to worry," his sister, Haley Hawkins, said. "He would pay the money, get out of jail in 24 to 48 hours."
"That's just what we hoped for, and it unfortunately did not unfold like that," Haley said.
