BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC /Gray News) - A UAB football player accused of assaulting two teammates is facing attempted murder and assault charges, according to court documents.
The court filings on Monday revealed Daniel Mincey stabbed JaSire Peterson, a redshirt freshman from Union City, NJ, and Joshua Underwood, a freshman from Fultondale.
Mincey is facing attempted murder charges for the attack on Peterson and first-degree assault charges in the Underwood case.
Police say officers responded to the Football Operations Center at UAB on Saturday where Peterson and Underwood were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
During a news conference Monday morning, Interim Head Coach Alex Mortensen said the two injured players are recovering after being released from the hospital.
